In Transcendental Meditation, very little “practice” is needed, as the process is completely natural. One learns to transcend from the first few days of TM practice and as soon as one has the experience of transcending, this will have an effect on one’s life (Maharishi says: “it’s not possible to dive into the water and not get wet”). Most people notice the relaxation from the first day and this effect will accumulate as you practice the technique longer.
The results come almost immediately, but the extent to which the effect is immediately noticeable differs from person to person.
The extent to which the effect is immediately noticeable differs from person to person. The general trend is that the difference is more noticeable as the problem is worse. An analogy can clarify this. When the room is completely dark, one additional candle will make a much bigger difference (relatively) than when there are 10 candles burning already. The result is actually immediate, one additional candle, but the relative difference, how it is experienced, can differ from person to person. In general, one notices a slight improvement starting the first few days, and a further gradual improvement over time.
Most of the scientific research measure results after an average of 3 months TM practice, as this seems to be a reliable period for virtually every new TM practitioner to have significant, measurable results.
