These effects have been described in research (see TM research: reliable) and also in the personal experiences of hundreds of thousands of TM practitioners.
Health: Among long-term TM practitioners, research has indicated 50% to 70% fewer cases of hospitalisation in general, 55% less hospitalisations for cancer and almost 90% less hospitalisations for cardiovascular diseases.
Chronic illnesses: Persons suffering from a number of chronic illnesses, some of which modern medicine can only hope to manage and sometimes at the cost of significant side-effects, have been shown to improve significantly with the frequent practice of the TM technique (see Better health).
Become younger: A number of studies have indicated that the regular practice of TM reverses various indicators associated with the ageing process. Short-term TM practitioners (3 years) on average were shown to have a biological age that was 5 years younger than their chronological age whereas long-term practitioners (7 years) were, on average, 12 years younger (see Becoming Younger).
Addictions: TM has been shown to have a positive impact in reducing tobacco, alcohol or other drug addictions.
Brain: Brain wave research shows the brain functioning more holistically and a greater liveliness across the whole brain. Increased integration of the brain and greater brain-wave coherence have been associated with an increase in intelligence and creativity, regardless of the age of the practitioners.
Ego-development or self-actualisation : (linked inter alia to self-acceptance and self-confidence): Analysis indicates that, while personal development had been regarded as freezing around the age of 20, studies showed significant growth with regular practice of TM, no matter whether the person practicing was 15 or 55 years old (see success).
Social effects: These are possibly the most striking effects of TM. Over 50 scientific studies have shown that a small group of practitioners of the advanced TM-Sidhi Programme can positively influence the collective consciousness of the surrounding communities and nations with associated reductions in indicators of social negativity like crime, accidents, hospitalisations, etc. The group practice of these advanced programmes is the simplest, fastest and least expensive method of producing greater coherence and harmony in collective consciousness of communities and nations – see society.
