Many celebrities that practice Transcendental Meditation comment that the technique helps to get deep rest and sleep better at night.

“To me, it’s the most rest. It’s like the most power-nap you could ever get.”
Katy Perry
“I had terrible insomnia, and about a year ago I started doing TM. After four days of doing TM I could suddenly sleep.”
Lo Bosworth Actress/Author

Do you feel tired?

You are not alone! Up to 45% of the population is affected by insomnia in a given year and 10-30% on any given day. Most people are familiar with the short-term consequences of not getting enough sleep:

  • difficulty concentrating
  • reduced memory
  • feeling foggy
  • reduced reaction time

However many people are not aware of the possible long-term consequences which are even more severe:

  • obesity
  • heart disease
  • diabetes
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • poor immune system functioning

Our body and mind need rest to balance out all the activity and stress we accumulate during the day. And if we don’t get enough rest, our body gets out of balance and this has long term health implications.

Some of the main causes of insomnia are stress, anxiety and depression. And not sleeping enough in turn makes stress, anxiety and depression worse. So this creates a vicious cycle that is difficult to escape for many people.

Uniquely deep rest

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is the most practiced (6 million practitioners), most widely researched (600 studies), and, according to the research, the most relaxing technique in the world. The technique very quickly creates deep rest, which helps the body to get back into a state of balance.

This graph from a Harvard Medical School research study shows this clearly: during TM the body almost immediately comes into a state of deep rest, while it takes many hours to reach the deepest rest during sleep (state of rest is measured by reduced oxygen consumption). Ref.Science 27 Vol. 167 no. 3926 pp. 1751-1754 1970 More than 30 studies around the world have by now confirmed the deep state of rest during TM practice.Ref.American Psychologist, 1987, 42: 879-881.

“It calms me down, I have less headaches, and I sleep better.”
William Hague, Former British Foreign Secretary
“The stress of not sleeping accumulates over time. Sleep can only dissolve the fatigue of the day. Transcendental Meditation allows you to throw off accumulated stress.”
Dr. Sarina Grosswald

Breaking the vicious cycle

Research shows that the unique experience of transcending, which creates this deep rest, also reduces stress, anxiety and depression. This allows us to sleep better during the night. So our body wins twice: extra deep rest during the meditation and more and higher quality sleep during the night, further reducing our stress, anxiety and depression. This is how the vicious cycle of insomnia can be effectively turned around into a virtuous cycle of ever more health and well-being with Transcendental Meditation.

We can see this clearly in this research study with war veterans suffering from PTSD (reduced PTSD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, alcoholism, and improved stress resistance). After only 3 months of TM practice, 70% of the war veterans required no further treatment. The control group that received standard psychotherapy showed no improvement.Ref.Journal of Counseling and Development 64: 212–215, 1985

Many war veterans have problems that go far deeper than most. If TM can help them – where other approaches have had limited success or failed – it is easy to see how it could help anyone.

“After starting TM, my heart and mind were calmed. I had my first full night of sleep in 21 years. I have new goals in my life, and I haven’t stopped smiling ever since my first meditation.”
Carlos, Veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Liberation of Kuwait
“The amazing thing about Transcendental Meditation is the very well established research showing the technique impacts things, that we didn’t think were changeable.”
Dr. Oz

Easy

TM is a very simple, natural, effortless meditation technique that does not require any concentration or controlling the mind. It is taught one-on-one by a highly trained, certified meditation instructor that can take you step by step through the process in a very easy and natural way.

“I have tried meditations but I could not do it. I concluded that I’m apparently incapable of meditating… when I learned TM it was the easiest thing I’ve ever done… I got my entire family to learn.”
Cameron Diaz

Fundamentally different from other techniques

TM is fundamentally different and the results are also fundamentally different. The American Heart Association recently reviewed all the scientific research and now formally recommends doctors to consider prescribing TM for the office treatment of hypertension. Interestingly, they specifically state that only TM, and no other form of meditation or relaxation is recommended.

“No other ‘stress management technique’ has anywhere close to TM’s amount of hard data in support of its claims to reduce stress.”
Norman Rosenthal, MD, U.S. National Institutes of Mental Health

How can I learn?

The Transcendental Meditation technique is individually taught by a professionally trained teacher who is able to lead a person through the experience of transcending in a completely natural way.

This technique is taught step-by-step during four consecutive meetings. This is followed by a detailed support and follow up program over the next six months to ensure the correct practice.

The first step, however, is simply to attend a free info seminar.

What the Media is saying about TM

What people are saying

“Transcendental Meditation has opened up a new world of good health and well-being for me. I am so much more in control of my life and realise that there is something I can do to reduce my stress levels and feel more relaxed. It is such a blessing — I am grateful to have found it.”

Aisling Drury-Byrne, Royal Irish Academy of Music, Musician & Teacher

“The best thing I ever did in my life was to learn TM as an architectural student in 1973. I have benefitted in a multitude of ways from it’s simple, easy practice. In the morning, when I sit down to practise TM, it’s as if I receive a mental bath. Having more energy and clarity as a result of my TM practice, I am able to give and receive more, not only in my professional life, but in my personal life also.”

Peter Mullins, Architect

“As a musician, I feel that it helps me to perform better and as a teacher, it allows me to approach the classroom in a relaxed state of mind which, I believe, in turn has a positive effect on my students. I would highly recommend TM to anyone who is looking for an easy and effective way to bring balance into all aspects of their lives.”

Rachel Robinson, Musician & Teacher

“I encourage all my patients to practice Transcendental Meditation. Experience Shows and research confirms, that it is the best vaccine against stress-related conditions. Regular practice keeps you inwardly settled despite being surrounded by chaos.”

Dr Donn Brennan (MRCGP), General Practitioner.

“Having practised TM and the TM Sidhi Programme for 27 years I find it hard to describe the magnitude of change it has brought to my life other than to say it has changed everything ; in a phrase perhaps it has made me a completely happy and enriched person enjoying all aspects of life.”

Derek Crampton, Businessman
